Nigerian Army via the Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has issued a warning to journalists against embarking on coverage of security risk areas in the North East for documentary purpose and the likes without due authorization from the military authorities. Its spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, in a statement on Wednesday said the practice was not only capable of jeopardizing the success of the on-going military operations in the area but also posed great concern to the safety of such journalists. Continuing he said, “Much as the military is not trying to gag the press from carrying out their legitimate duties, permission should be sought from the Armed Forces before embarking on such venture. “This will enable adequate security to be provided for such journalists by the military. Troops Of 1 Division Raid Armed Bandits Camps In Zamfara State

Troops of 223 Battalion, 1 Brigade, 1 Division Nigerian Army, have continued to raid and clear suspected livestock rustlers and armed bandits camps in Zamfara State. The troops during a raid on suspected armed bandits camp at Dumburum forest, Zurmi Local Government, killed 7 livestock rustlers and recovered large quantity of ammunition and a pair of military camouflage uniform. Similarly, the troops also cleared suspected armed bandits camp at Bagega general area in Anka Local Government Area. Although the bandits managed to escape, an abandoned motorcycle was recovered and the camp was destroyed. The troops also proceeded and cleared livestock rustlers and armed bandits camps located at Gando forest, near Baruba village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the State. The troops killed 8 armed bandits during an exchange of gunfire.  The troops have also mobilized to Kalgo village in Maru Local Government Area in pursuit of armed bandits that attacked the village. The Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN), yesterday, berated the United States (US) Secretary of States, Mr John Kerry over his visit to Nigeria, describing the visit as discriminatory, personal and divisive. The President of CAN, Rev. Supo Ayokunle said the visit would further the federal government’s plan to continue to persecute the teeming population of Nigerian Christians. Kerry’s two day visit has attracted condemnation from Christian leaders who question his sincerity during the visit. Kerry, during the visit had only visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, met with the 19 northern governors, whom only three are Christians. US Secretary of State has arrived Nigeria Mr Kerry was speaking during a courtesy visit on the Sultan at his palace in Sokoto. He said that the Sultanate Council was building a community of tolerance for peace, progress and political stability in Nigeria. He said that the United States would continue to identify itself with the Sultanate in strengthening religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians. He said that being the first secretary of state to visit the seat of the caliphate, all hands should be on deck towards strengthening religious knowledge among Nigerians. Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar had earlier expressed delight at the visit. He said that the council would continue to promote peaceful coexistence among Nigerians for the overall political growth of the country. He explained that religious tolerance and understanding among Nigerians remained the principal objective of the Sultanate in mobilising Nigerians to tolerate one another for peace, progress and political stability
