BREAKING: Buhari Returns Today - Presidency

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari is returning to the country today, after receiving medical attention in London. The President had left the country on May 7, this year, after handing over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who has functioned as Acting President since then. President Buhari is expected to speak to Nigerians in a broadcast by 7 a.m on Monday, August 21, 2017, according to Femi Adesina, the President’s media adviser. Adesina said Buhari thanked all Nigerians who have prayed ceaselessly for his recovery and well-being since the beginning of the health challenge in January this year.

Rivers State Police Rescue Remaining 7 Oil Workers From Kidnappers

Seven remaining victims of the September 2, 2016 Kidnapping along Omoku/Elele axis of Rivers State have been rescued by the Rivers State Police.  This comes not later than a day after the escape of three other persons from the same kidnappers den. All 14 of them were kidnapped on September 2, 2016, Confirming the rescue of the oil workers, spokesman for the police in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, in a statement said the police smashed the hoodlums in the early hours of Sunday and rescued the abducted.  According to him, no ransom was paid. The victims are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital. By this rescue all 14 kidnapped oil workers are out of captivity. The Police Commissioner, CP Rivers State  said that however, investigations is still on to unravel the circumstances surrounding the kidnap.

Four Soldiers Drown In Boat Mishap In Bayelsa State

The military operation dubbed Operation Crocodile Smile suffered a major loss on Monday following a boat accident along the Brass Water Front in Brass Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State, leading to the death of four soldiers by drowning.  Also missing are service rifles belonging to the missing soldiers. It was gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 10 a.m. on Monday, created panic among newly deployed soldiers. ‎The State Chairman of the Maritime Union, Lyyod Sese, who confirmed the incident, said the union had received the report on the boat incident, "but [we] don't have details on the number of casualties." Also confirming the incident, an official of Brass Local Government Council, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the development, calling it a "natural incident." Another Fire Engulfs Lagos International Airport

Barely four days after a fire ravaged the D-wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, another fire at the same airport broke out on Sunday evening. The fire outbreak, which affected the Skye Bank office at the airport, also affected some other tenants at the terminal. It took the quick intervention of the firefighting agents of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to put the raging fire under control. A source close to the engineering department of the FAAN told our correspondent that some of the recently fitted cables might have been responsible for the fire outbreak. At the time of publication, the entire arrival hall of the terminal was in total darkness while flight operations were temporarily halted. Passengers Besiege Aero Contractors Offices To Demand Refund On Purchased Tickets

The head office of the beleaguered airline, Aero Contractors, was, at the weekend, besieged by passengers who had bought flight tickets in the hope of traveling at a later date. They were at the office to demand the refund of the sums paid for tickets. The passengers also stormed the office of the airline at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. They, however, met the office locked, as it has been since the airline announced a suspension of its flight operations last week. When Reporters visited the airline's terminal on Saturday, it observed that some passengers had booked flights to Accra, Ghana, later this month. Such passengers were shocked to learn that the airline had suspended flight operations to the West African country. Aero Contractors Airlines, Nigeria Confirms Suspension of Services

Aero Contractors Airlines, Nigeria’s second largest commercial carrier, has confirmed the suspension of its scheduled services beginning from Thursday September 1, 2016. Confirming this in a statement signed by the carrier’s management on Wednesday, Aero stated that the suspension was part of the strategic business realignment to reposition the airline and return it to profitability. It stated that this “business decision”, which is a result of the current economic situation in the country, had forced some other airlines to suspend operations or pull out of Nigeria. The management of the carrier said the airline had faced grave challenges in the past six months which impacted its business and by extension the scheduled services operations. These factors, according to Aero, are both internal and external environmental factors that have made it difficult for it to continue its scheduled services. Buhari's Bodyguards and Police Set to Clash

The Inspector General of Police  has directed the Commissioner of Police,  FCT, Abuja to deploy mobile policemen to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja, venue of the planned protest by former bodyguards to President Muhammadu Buhari who participated during the 2015 presidential campaigns. The Spokesperson of the group of Presidential Bodyguards during the 2015 Presidential Election, Badiru Olabiyi Balogun, on Thursday gave a directive to his members to converge for a protest to the APC National Secretariat.  He further informed the media that his group will go ahead with the protest. He said, Two truck loads of mobile policemen have been deployed to our campaign office. They said the instruction was that they should not allow us access to the office and that the people outside should not be allowed to go in. So, we are meeting there by 9:00 am this morning.
