Another Fire Engulfs Lagos International Airport

Image
Barely four days after a fire ravaged the D-wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, another fire at the same airport broke out on Sunday evening. The fire outbreak, which affected the Skye Bank office at the airport, also affected some other tenants at the terminal. It took the quick intervention of the firefighting agents of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to put the raging fire under control. A source close to the engineering department of the FAAN told our correspondent that some of the recently fitted cables might have been responsible for the fire outbreak. The head office of the beleaguered airline, Aero Contractors, was, at the weekend, besieged by passengers who had bought flight tickets in the hope of traveling at a later date. The airline suspended flight operations to Accra in June without informing passengers, who had booked ahead. A few, however, got to know and succeeded in getting their fares refunded. But since last week when the airline an

Aero Contractors Airlines, Nigeria’s second largest commercial carrier, has confirmed the suspension of its scheduled services beginning from Thursday September 1, 2016. Confirming this in a statement signed by the carrier’s management on Wednesday, Aero stated that the suspension was part of the strategic business realignment to reposition the airline and return it to profitability. It stated that this “business decision”, which is a result of the current economic situation in the country, had forced some other airlines to suspend operations or pull out of Nigeria. The management of the carrier said the airline had faced grave challenges in the past six months which impacted its business and by extension the scheduled services operations. These factors, according to Aero, are both internal and external environmental factors that have made it difficult for it to continue its scheduled services. It stated that during the period in review, Aero witnessed epileptic operations and ser
